Determining volatile organic compounds in soil
Release Date :2025-11-04
An analytical method for simultaneously detecting volatile organic compounds in soil using Purge and Trap/GC-MS was established based on the environmental standard HJ 605-2011. Volatile organic compounds in the sample are purged and enriched in a trap tube with high-purity nitrogen gas. The trap tube is then heated and backflushed with high-purity helium gas. The components that are thermally desorbed enter the gas chromatograph, where they are separated and then detected by a mass spectrometer. Qualitative analysis is performed by comparing the results with the standard mass spectra and retention times of the target compounds, while quantitative analysis is done using the internal standard method.
